Workplace Health & Safety Advisor

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our company as we embark on our journey to becoming a cultural precinct.

This role is responsible for all aspects of Workplace Health and Safety – including administrative, general and technical WHS support.


  • Assist departments in developing Safe Work Instructions (SWI)
  • Conduct Training, in conjunction with departments relating to SWI (or facilitate such training with the assistance of our Training & Development Manager)
  • Track and maintain the completion of regular safe space inspections
  • Assist departments in rectifying identified areas for remedy from completed safe space inspections
  • Assist in the development of relevant WH&S procedures
  • Monitor and review the response to incidents, and undertake further investigations to follow-up actions for incidents where necessary.
  • Attend all WH&S Committee Meetings and act as the Secretary for this committee
  • Provide Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordination support when the HR Advisor is away
  • Drive the completion of outstanding items identified from the NAT audit and update the NAT audit action plan (in conjunction with the Director Corporate Services)
  • Track and advise of any WHS legislative or regulatory changes (and advise)
  • Provide WH&S advice to managers and supervisors to ensure that they have the necessary knowledge to undertake risk assessments and investigations to put in place corrective and preventative measures as required.
  • Liaise with the Senior Workplace Health & Safe Advisor (CoGC) in regards to progress of NAT audit action plan and scheduling of quarterly audits
  • Promote and facilitate WH&S Consultation and Communication throughout the business, to ensure the requirements of the WHSMS are met, including the provision of strategic and technical WH&S expertise
  • Audit of WH&S Master Register to ensure completeness and being kept up to date
  • Any other WH&S related tasks, including administration – as required



  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with particular emphasis on consultation, negotiation, conflict management and assertiveness.
  • Excellent project management, organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated and effective analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the relevant Work Health and Safety Legislation
  • Ability to deliver WH&S training and induction programs to facilitate effective learning outcomes
  • Highly developed knowledge and practical experience in the development, implementation and continual improvement of management systems, including data control processes.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of WH&S Management Systems
  • Ability to research issues, interpret and analyse information, determine the appropriate course of action and provide sound advice, options or recommendations.



  • Certificate IV (or higher) Workplace Health and Safety
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (highly regarded)
  • Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator Qualifications (highly regarded)

Payroll Officer


We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to work 3 days per week (22.8 hours per week) for a period of 6 months. This position is an integral component of the Corporate Services Department, ensuring all payroll functions are processed accordingly and are compliant within weekly and monthly timeframes and statutory and legislative requirements.

We are on the verge of implementing a new payroll software system and are looking for a person that can play a key role in helping us with this – we are very keen to speak to people that have previous experience with new software implementation.


  • Input and processing of weekly pays for both permanent and casual employees both accurately and within scheduled deadlines, in accordance with The Arts Centre Gold Coast Single Enterprise Agreement.
  • Issue and distribution of weekly pay slips and annual payment summaries.
  • Maintain accurate employees pay records and personnel files.
  • Complete and submit all Tax File Number Declarations and Superannuation documentation.
  • Monthly preparation of Superannuation and submission to the Super Clearing house.
  • Administration of rostering systems and the integration within the payroll system.
  • Administration of the company staff appraisal scheme.
  • Input and process Accounts Payable and Receivable both efficiently and in cost effective manner, as required.
  • Reconcile monthly accounts and adjust as required with particular emphasis on payroll transactions.
  • Participate in meetings to provide updated feedback, present recommendations, and relay identification of areas requiring improvement.
  • Adopt a team approach to functions within the Finance Department.



This position requires the incumbent to perform a diverse range of financial duties and reporting functions. The incumbent will be able to demonstrate experience in:

  • Processing all payroll functions
  • Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Cash Handling
  • Ability to communicate in a tactful and confidential manner with clients and staff of all levels
  • Knowledge of relevant payroll and superannuation statutory requirements and legislation
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and good time management skills, whilst maintaining a high attention to detail
  • Proven experience using Reckon Accounting Software program
  • Willingness to undertake a Police Check prior to employment



  • While there are no mandatory qualifications, a relevant Finance Qualification would be well regarded
  • 3 years’ experience in payroll processing, bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, finance or related field
  • Intermediate skills using Reckon Accounting Software
  • Intermediate MS Office skills.
