Fashion on Film
In celebration of Coming into Fashion: A Century of Photography at Condé Nast this micro film festival offers a curated selection of the most seminal films and documentaries about fashion. Popular hits like The Dressmaker, The Devil Wears Prada, and Funny Face will run alongside gripping industry documentaries like Dior and I, Advanced Style and Iris.
$5 per film or indulge in a package for $20 which includes one film, exhibition entry prior to the film and a glass of sparkling wine.
Funny Face stars Fred Astaire as fashion photographer Dick Avery, who is sent out by his female boss Maggie Prescott (Kay Thompson) to find a “new face”. It doesn’t take Dick long to discover Jo (Audrey Hepburn), an owlish Greenwich Village bookstore clerk. Acting as Pygmalion to Jo’s Galatea, Dick whisks the wide-eyed girl off to Paris and transforms her into the fashion world’s hottest model. Along the way, he falls in love with Jo, and works overtime to wean her away from such phony-baloney intellectuals as Professor Emile Flostre.
